sandys-at-plymouth-beach-001.jpgTuesday, my mom, Ric, Josh and I headed to Plymouth Long Beach. Sandy’s Snack Bar is located right at the beach and it is very wheelchair friendly and accessible.

sandys-at-plymouth-beach-002.jpgOne handicap parking is located right on the side of the restaurant. Additional handicap parking spaces are close by in the beach parking lot. Beachgoers and local residents come here to eat. The view of the ocean is spectacular.

sandys-at-plymouth-beach-003.jpgAccess to Sandy’s is easy for it is wide open; the dining room is set under a tent so you are shaded from the hot sun. All the tables are wheelchair accessible and of a great height for my chair. A bar serving alcoholic beverages  located in this dining area is not accessible for the countertop is too high; tall bar chairs are set in front of the bar. ADA doesn’t require a bar to be accessible yet Kenny & Company believe all bars should have a section that is wheelchair accessible so customers in wheelchairs who want a drink can enjoy it while seated at the bar.

The restrooms are the same ones you use for the beach; they are wheelchair accessible, spacious and fully ADA compliant. The pipes under the accessible sink are not covered yet they don’t need to be since the faucet only has cold water; therefore no fear of anyone getting a burn.

I give Sandy’s Snack Bar FIVE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. I would highly recommend they lower a section of the bar which serves alcoholic drinks to a wheelchair accessible height.
