Statue of Liberty To get to the Island you need to take a ferry out of Battery Park. When I went I needed to be searched because my electric wheel chair kept setting off the sensors. Three people kept searching my bag and chair and I got though it fine but it was kind of embarrassing for it drew a lot of attention to me. On the ferry I had to stay on the lower deck but the lower deck was very spacious. It was easy to get my wheelchair on and off the Ferry. When it’s busy you may find the ferry very crowded. Once on the Island I found it very wheelchair accessible. The paths were very accessible and the terrain was good and I had no problem getting around.

Statue of Liberty  At the time of my visit we could not get into The Statue of Liberty as they were doing renovations. I was told that normally there is an elevator in The Statue of Liberty that can take a person in a wheelchair to the platform level which is as high as her feet. The bathrooms are very accessible to all wheelchairs. There is outside dinning but the seagulls are annoying! There is only fast food on the island.

Statue of Liberty

I give The Statue of Liberty only THREE STARS mostly because there was no access to the Statue of Liberty when we were there …and security on the Ferry could have more discreetly searched me and not drawn a lot of attention to me.
