subway-and-001.jpgMy friends and I went to grab some lunch at Subway in Dartmouth after a great workout in the  Healthtrax Therapy Pool and Steam Room for we were starving after burning so many calories :) We were disappointed that this Subway is not as wheelchair accessible as other Subways we’ve reviewed.

subway-and-002.jpgParking is not a problem for there are many handicap parking spaces located right up front in the Plaza’s parking lot. I found entering difficult for the entry door is a single door and not automatic. I was in my manual chair today because I don’t like to get my new Permobil C350 Power Chair wet when I use the pool so my friend Kevin had to hold the door open and push my chair in at the same time which is not easy.

subway-and-004.jpgOnce inside I did find that the ordering/cashier counter is of a good height for my wheelchair. There are three small tables inside this Subway and ONLY one is wheelchair accessible. This accessible table even has a handicap accessible logo engraved on it. The other tables are not wheelchair accessible for they are too small. The countertop by the window and the taller bar like tables are not accessible either for they are too high for a wheelchair. My new Permobil C350 Power Chair could have fit for it has an elevating seat :)

The restroom has all the ADA required safety grab bars and an accessible sink that is of a good wheelchair accessible height yet the problem is that the restroom is really too small and is very difficult to maneuver a wheelchair inside.

I give this Subway in Dartmouth TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars they would need to; install automatic entry doors; place more wheelchair accessible tables inside the restaurant and enlarge the restroom so that all sized wheelchairs can fit and maneuver once inside the restroom.
