The last place on South Shore Drive that my mom and aunt checked out for wheelchair accessible rooms was the worse one of all. It was the Surf and Sand. There were no handicap parking spaces any where in their parking lot. There was a ‘no parking’ sign in the parking space next to the front walkway. My mom wasn’t sure why this space had a ‘no parking’ sign but she thought it might be for the convenience of the owner of the hotel.
The entry door to the lobby of the Surf and Sand is not at all wheelchair accessible because there is a large staircase that leads to the main entry door. My mom walked up the stairs to enter the main door to the lobby which wasn’t an automatic door. The front desk is in the lobby and my mom asked the woman behind the front desk if the Surf and Sand had a wheelchair accessible room.
My mom told me that she was just shocked when the woman coldly and uncaringly told her, “We are an old building and haven’t gotten around to that yet”.
Surf and Sand’s brochure states that they just redecorated every room and built a new outdoor heated swimming pool. Obviously, wheelchair accessibility isn’t a priority.
Kenny & Company give the Surf and Sand ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility and ZERO STARS for lack and sensitivity of the staff and owner towards the disabled. They obviously do not care at all about making their place accessible for the disabled. If Kenny & Company had a minus ZERO STAR rating this would be one place that the owners and staff would definitely deserve it!

I think it’s awful that these Cape Cod hotels don’t have wheelchair accessible rooms. I guess they think none of us in wheelchairs deserve to go on vacation to Cape Cod and it’s right here in our own state..soooo.. sad!!

Hi Kenny and co! It is very disappointing that so many vacation destinations on the Cape are not accessible. Maybe you and your readers could check out this website that I came across while doing some research on accessibility on the Cape: http://www.capecoddisability.org/
It classifies many different lodgings, restaurants, activities, etc. on the Cape and describes their accessibility. Hopefully you can find more positive experiences at some of these other hotels.
