“Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go”… We decided to take a short stroll, in the winter wonderland of Lakeville & Middleboro to the A-Frame Bar and Grill. I took my manual chair for I didn’t want to expose my new Permobil C350 Power Chair to the snow, salt and sand on the roads :)
“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow”.
My friends and I drive by A-Frame Bar and Grill everyday for it is located at the end of my street and is located on the town line of Lakeville and Middleboro. We’ve never stopped here to eat but decided to go today so we could enjoy a nice lunch, as we are tired of being snowbound for the last few days. I was pleased to see that A-Frame Bar and Grill is wheelchair accessible with only a few minor obstacles.
There are plenty of handicap parking spaces conveniently located close to the entry door. I also noticed that there are outdoor picnic tables set up in an area under some trees for use during those warm sunny days of summer. I couldn’t tell if the picnic tables are accessible because they are all covered with snow.
“Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow.”
The entry doors are not automatic but are wide enough for my wheelchair to enter with ease, as my friends held the door open for me. Tables are of a good height for my wheelchair to fit under with no problem. As soon as we sat at our table a very nice waitress bought us some popcorn that they had been popping. Our waitress was very kind and courteous as she was very respectful in taking the time to listen to me place my order.
There is a bar located in the rear of the A-Frame that is too high for a wheelchair to sit at unless a person’s wheelchair is able to elevate. Three large screen TV’s are located in this bar and grill and easy for all to see from the bar or the dining room.
Suddenly, I realized that I had to use the restroom so as I went ‘dashing’ thru the hall in my manual chair; I noticed that the hallway is quite narrow making it a tight squeeze for me to turn into the restroom. Once inside I found the restroom to be very spacious with plenty of room for my wheelchair to turn around in. The ADA required safety grab bars are at a perfect height on the wall to the side and behind the toilet and the accessible sink is of a perfect height for my chair wheelchair. Yet I could not reach the soap and towel dispenser for they are set too high on the wall. The mirror above the accessible sink is too small and set too high for me to see. I also noticed that the pipes under the accessible sink are not covered as is now ADA required.
“When we finally say good night, How I’ll hate going out in the storm; But if you really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm”. My friends and I were all looking forward to arriving back home to enjoy a relaxing night by our Christmas tree and warm fire.
“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”
I give the A-Frame Bar and Grill TWO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Three Stars they need to install an automatic entry door; lower a small section of the bar to a wheelchair accessible height; widen the hallway that leads to the restroom; lower the mirror, soap and towel dispenser in the restroom and cover the exposed pipes under the accessible sink.
