bb-1.jpgThe Back Eddy restaurant is located on the Westport River and only a short distance from Horseneck Beach. We decided to stop and do a wheelchair accessibility review of this restaurant on our way to Horseneck Beach.

bb-2.jpgThe Back Bay Eddy has two handicap parking spaces conveniently located right up front next to the main entry door. The main entry door is wide enough for a wheelchair to fit through with ease. It is not automatic so you will need help with opening this door. The tables in the restaurant are nice and spread out so there is plenty of room to maneuver your wheelchair around. There is an outside dining area that also has tables of a good height for a wheelchair.

The restrooms are wheelchair accessible. There is a large handicap stall with all the ADA required safety grab bars. The sinks are accessible but do not have the ADA required protective covering around the pipes under the sink.

The staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. We asked to see a menu and noticed that the prices are quite high. We didn’t eat here for we were on our way to the beach but it is too expensive for our budget.

_-5.jpgThe Little Fox Sport Fishing Charter boats are docked at the back of the Back Eddy. The hostess told us that one needs to go through The Back Eddy to get to this Fishing Charter Dock. We went out to the dock to see if it was wheelchair accessible and happy to say that it was.

_-3.jpgThe dock is wide and has a nice ramp from the back patio of The Back Eddy restaurant. There is a booth located here where you can purchase tickets or inquire about Charter Boats.

_-4.jpgThe booth was temporarily closed today for the staff must have been out on charters. There is an area with two accessible tables that one in a wheelchair can sit and enjoy the view. There is a window in this area that was closed today but looked like it might be a window one can order something to eat or drink.

_-6.jpgThere is a nice ramp that leads to the dock where one gets onto a boat. I’m not sure if any of the charter boats themselves are wheelchair accessible but it is a nice place to visit to see the boats.

I give Back Bay Eddy THREE STARS. In order to earn the other Two Stars they would simply need to install an automatic entry door and place protective covering around the exposed pipes under the accessible sinks in the restrooms.
