The Capitol Coffee House is conveniently located right across the street from the Massachusetts State House. I stopped by here to get a drink and a snack after touring the State House and decided to do a wheelchair accessibility review. (See my Review of Massachusetts State House.
The entry door is nice and wide and easy to get my Tilt and Space wheelchair through but it is not automatic. It was a warm day when I stopped by and the main door was wide open so I easily wheeled my wheelchair right inside.
The front part of the restaurant has a high counter where one can order some food or a drink to take with them. Stools are also located at another section of this counter that one can sit at to enjoy a cup of coffee with a meal. This counter is not wheelchair accessible for it is too high for a person like me in a wheelchair to reach top of the counter.
We discovered that there is a room in the rear side of the coffee house which has plenty of tables that are a good height for my wheelchair. There is also plenty of room for one in a wheelchair to move around the tables. The staff were very courteous, friendly and kind to me. They didn’t have a restroom so I couldn’t assess that.
I give the Capitol Coffee House THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. They could earn the other TWO STARS if they installed an automatic door and placed a small section at the main counter that is wheelchair accessible.
