Recently while shopping at Middleborough Crossing my friends Ric, Amanda and I went for a bite to eat at Tiki Buddha, a Chinese Restaurant located in this shopping plaza. Tiki Buddha is wheelchair accessible with only a few minor obstacles.
There are plenty of handicap parking spaces located in the plaza parking lot close to the entrance of this restaurant. Wheelchair access to the sidewalk is well marked with bright yellow paint and close to the entry door. The entry door has an engraved sign with a wheelchair symbol; “If you need assistance please ask – our staff is ready and willing to help. Thank You.” The entry door is not automatic so Amanda held the door open while Ric pushed my manual chair inside.
Once inside a very nice hostess kindly greeted us and showed us to our table. The tables are all of a good wheelchair accessible height. Our waitress was friendly, kind and courteous. The food was ok and the service is quick.
A bar located inside the restaurant is NOT wheelchair accessible due to the countertop is too high. The ADA doesn’t require a bar to be of an accessible height yet Kenny and Company believe all bars should have a section with a lower counter so a person in a wheelchair can enjoy a drink at the bar too.
The restroom has one stall that is handicap accessible; the sink is of a good accessible height; the pipes under the sink are not covered as is ADA required; the soap and hand towel dispenser are within my reach.
I give Tiki Buddha THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars they would need to install automatic doors so a person in a wheelchair can enter and exit independently; lower a section of the bar to an accessible height so a person in a wheelchair can sit and enjoy a drink at the bar; and place protective covering on the pipes under the accessible sink in the restroom as is ADA required.
