Twice Upon a time Bookstore, a used book store in downtown of my hometown of Middleborough is yet another place of business that is NOT wheelchair accessible due to a two inch inaccessible threshold at the entry door.
My mom, Ric, Tony and I all thought what a shame; we all like books and would prefer to buy a used book in good condition at half the cost of a new book. All the doors in my home have an accessible threshold. An inaccessible threshold is a barrier for wheelers and it is simple to replace with an accessible threshold.
Once Again! Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, “businesses that provide goods and services to the public are already required to remove structural barriers to access by people with disabilities when removal is “readily achievable”. A one step entrance is considered “readily achievable”. The ONLY Massachusetts city or town that I know of who enforces this is the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Cambridge Human Rights Commission due to an ‘ordinance amendment’ the Cambridge City Council unanimously passed on March 3, 2008. Obviously, the town of Middleborough does not enforce the ADA.
I give Twice Upon a time Bookstore in Middleborough ZERO STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn any Stars, they would simply need to install an accessible threshold at the entry door.
