walmart.jpgEvery week my friends and I go to Wal-Mart Supercenter in Raynham to buy all our paper good and detergent supplies but we never did a wheelchair accessibility review so we decided to do a full review today.
There are plenty of handicap parking spaces that are close to the entry doors. This Wal-Mart Supercenter has a Supermarket too and is why it is a Supercenter.

kenny-walmart-004.jpgThe entry doors are the best kind of automatic doors for they slide open as soon as you approach. This is much easier than the ones that have a button that you need to push. Once inside the entry area you will see handicap scooters that are available for disabled to use while shopping. These scooters have baskets on the front where you can put your purchases in. When you enter the store there is always a friendly employee who greets you and will direct you to the area you want.

The aisles are all nice and wide with nothing in the way to clutter them and I find it very easy to maneuver my wheelchair around. The restroom is very wheelchair accessible. There is no door to open for you enter a small hallway and then turn in to enter the restroom. There is a large handicap stall with all the ADA required safety grab bars that are placed at a good height on the wall. The sinks are wheelchair accessible and the water comes on automatically when you put your hand under the faucet. The soap dispenser and paper towels are also automatic too! The pipes under the accessible sink are not exposed.

kenny-walmart-005.jpgThe only accessible problem I find at this Wal-Mart Supercenter is that the ATM Transaction/Machine at all the check out counters are way too high for me to reach sitting in my wheelchair so my friends have to do it for me. This Wal-Mart doesn’t have a handicap accessible check out counter like the ones in the Super Stop & Shop. My friends and I pointed this problem out to Beth, a very nice and kind cashier and she understood it is a problem for persons in wheelchairs but told us that the cashiers will always offer help.

I give this Wal-Mart Supercenter FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Star they would need to place the ATM/Transaction machines lower at  all the check out counters or at least lower it at 1 check out counter and mark it handicap accessible. This way persons in wheelchairs can complete their transactions independently and not need to depend on help from a stranger.
