After having lunch at Au Bon Pain in Pembroke, we passed by Wild Birds Unlimited in Hanover and couldn’t resist stopping because we all love Bluebirds and songbirds as you can read about by clicking on  Access Bluebirds.

There is one handicap parking space in the plaza parking lot in front of the wheelchair access to the sidewalk. The entry door isn’t automatic so Jowanna held the door open while Kevin pushed my manual wheelchair inside.

The store is small and filled with many wonderful supplies. There is plenty of space between displays for me to wheel along. This store has many kinds of bird feeders; poles; baffles; a huge selection of seed, suet and fruit; bird houses for all kinds of birds; covers for bird houses and feeders; bird baths; binoculars; spotting scopes; books about all kind of birds; bird watching guides, hummingbird supplies; gift ware; cool things for your garden; and much, much more.

The cashier counter is of an accessible height. Placed on the counter top are bags of SeedBallz which are balls of flower seeds rolled by people with disabilities. I bought a bag for the flowering seeds are easy for me plant because I just place it on the soil in full sun and water! The man working here was knowledgeable, helpful and kind. He even carried our purchases to our van.

I give Wild Birds in Hannover FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install an automatic entry door so a person in a wheelchair can enter and exit independently. The gentleman working here deserves FIVE STARS for his kindness, sensitivity and helpfulness!
