If you love lobster like I do and want to get a fresh live lobster to cook at home, I highly recommend Woods Seafood Fish Market in Plymouth for it has the freshest seafood available on the South Shore and is very wheelchair friendly and accessible. This fish market is located on the historic Plymouth Harbor and in the same building as
Woods Seafood Restaurant which is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at!
Yesterday, my mom, Jowanna, Kevin and I headed to Woods Seafood Fish Market to buy some fresh live lobsters to cook for my birthday dinner. A handicap parking space is located right in front of the wheelchair accessible ramp that leads to the entry door. The entry door is not automatic so Jowanna held it open while Kevin pushed my chair inside.
Once inside we were warmly greeted by a friendly employee who was very helpful, kind and courteous. There is plenty of room to maneuver your chair. The display of fresh seafood placed behind the glass counter is easy for me to see from my wheelchair. Every imaginable fresh fish is available.
We told the employee we needed 3 live lobsters to take home to cook for dinner; he kindly showed us to the big tank of live lobsters located to the left of the glass counter with fresh fish. The lobster tanks are located next to a scale which is set on a table of a good wheelchair accessible height. I looked at the 3 live lobsters as they were being placed on the scale and one of them seemed very rambunctious.
We then asked how big is the biggest lobster they have and were told it is 12 pounds! The employee then took this huge 12 lb lobster out of the tank to show us! This lobster cost $100 and would need a huge pot for boiling it at home.
The cashier counter is of a good wheelchair accessible height and easy to reach. Once we got home we cooked our 3 lobsters which were fresh and delicious!
I give Woods Seafood in Plymouth FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install an automatic door so a person in a wheelchair can enter independently. The kind employees who helped me deserve FIVE STARS for their kindness, sensitivity and helpfulness!
