po008.jpgIn case you need to mail some post cards or other things while on the Cape, here is my review on the Yarmouthport Post Office, and my opinion on how handicapped accessible they are.

po009.jpgI will start with the handicapped parking; it is located very close to the entrance of the post office. There is also a ramp that will take you to the door. The ramp is perfect height and width for me in my wheelchair.

po010.jpgThere is only one door that you need to go through to get inside and the only problem is it is not automatic. That would make it very hard for someone in a wheelchair to enter alone. The width of the door is great. I had no trouble at all getting in as long as someone held the door for me.

po011.jpgOnce inside, there is plenty of room to get around in a wheelchair without a problem. The counters in the post office are at a good height for someone in a wheelchair to do what they need to do. I could fill out my mail at the counter as well as purchase stamps at the checkout counter without any problems.

po012.jpgAs far as the restrooms go, there aren’t any public restrooms. The lighting is great for someone visually impaired; they wouldn’t have a problem seeing the things they need to see. There’s also personal mailboxes that people can use, and can have their personal mail delivered and those are at different levels so someone in a wheelchair could request one at the right height for them.

The staff is very friendly and helpful, they didn’t have a problem answering any and all of my questions.

I give the Yarmouthport Post Office FOUR STARS. They could earn the last star if they put in automatic doors. Without automatic doors, it is very difficult to enter buildings. I have to rely on someone to open the door and hold it open for me which can become embarrassing if you are not with someone who can do that for you.
