Recently while in Plymouth with my mom and friends we stopped at Ziggy’s for some lunch. As soon as I saw its name, I thought of an old favorite comic strip of mine called Ziggy’s :>) I was pleased to find Ziggy’s wheelchair friendly.
Ziggy’s, a fast food restaurant serving lunch, dinner and ice cream is located right on the Plymouth waterfront. It’s only open during summer months and accepts Cash Only. There is a cement sloped walkway leading to the entry door. We noticed the edge of this walkway is painted in bright yellow which is good so persons in wheelchairs will see the edge and not wheel over it accidentally. It’s a great safety feature for the disabled.
The wide door was wedged open when we were here; a person in a wheelchair could enter independently yet the door is not automatic. I approached the customer service counter and placed my order. This counter is a little high but it’s manageable for persons in a wheelchair to reach. Inside is small and has a few small accessible tables.
Once we placed our order we went outside and sat at a picnic table. None of the picnic tables here are wheelchair accessible for the benches are permanently attached. I sat at the end with my chair turned to the side which I find awkward. The owner came outside and my mom suggested he place a wheelchair accessible table on this patio. He told us he will definitely place an accessible table here.
The most wheelchair accessible picnic tables I’ve seen are the tables at
Scusset Beach State Reservation where the permanently mounted bench seats swing out and the picnic table at
Old Silver Beach where the picnic table has an extension on the end to fit a wheelchair. When our lunch order was ready a very nice female employee brought it right to our outdoor table. Ziggy’s serves all customers their food order when it is done. We all enjoyed the food! The employees and owner were very friendly and courteous.
I give Ziggy’s FOUR STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the Fifth Star they would need to install an automatic entry door so persons in wheelchairs can enter independently when their door isn’t wedged open; and place a wheelchair accessible table in the outdoor sitting area.
